Time to Shine (world premiere)

Junges Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf

Dance and theatre spectacle by Takao Baba and ensemble - for hearing, hard of hearing and deaf people.

Imagine you're on a game show and don't know why you've been invited. A new AI is to be presented in the show. The rules of the game are simple: play, talk, dance. As more and more signs point to the fact that candidate no. 7 will never come back, the showmaster blurts out what the AI is all about: it can predict the end of your life. The show is supposed to capture the contestants' reactions to the time they have left. Full of rage, they stop the showmaster and begin to share their dreams with each other.

"Time to Shine" by Düsseldorf choreographer Takao Baba brings together the ensemble of the Junges Schauspiel with guests from the urban dance community and deaf performers, making the production spectacularly accessible for hearing, hard of hearing and deaf people.

Excerpt from the jury's statement:

“An impressive hip-hop dance ensemble with outstanding performers fills the stage with energy and passion. While the dancers show their skills, profound philosophical questions about the quality of life and the value of time are raised. The audience is invited to reflect on life and to be inspired by “Time to shine”. "

"A ground-breaking new AI is to be presented in a fictitious game show. The contestants take to the stage to loud cheers, but the tension mounts when contestant no. 7 is unexpectedly absent. They become increasingly impatient as the signs of his non-appearance intensify. Suddenly, the show hosts burst out: the AI is able to predict the end of their lives and recognises the different reactions of the contestants to their remaining time. The show takes an emotional turn when the contestants interrupt the show hosts to share their dreams and hopes. An impressive hip-hop dance ensemble with outstanding performers fills the stage with energy and passion. While the dancers show their skills, profound philosophical questions about the quality of life and the value of time are raised. The audience is invited to reflect on life and to be inspired by “Time to shine”."
